Penalty on officers for taking gratuity

Every officer or employee employed for the purposes of this Act who exacts or accepts on account of anything done relating to his duties any fee or reward whatever other than the salary or allowance ordered or allowed by the Council commits 17 an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than two thousand dollars nor more than ten thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a period of not less than one year nor more than five years, or to both such fine and period of imprisonment.
