Power to fix allowances

(1) Subject to the approval of the Minister of Finance, the Council may by resolution fix an allowance to be paid to members from monies constituting the Belmopan City Fund. (2) No payment shall be made to any member (whether in the form of salary, allowance or otherwise) unless it has been previously approved by the Minister of Finance, and every payment made in contravention of this section shall be wholly void and shall be recoverable from the member receiving such (3) The Accounting Officer or other person who certifies or authorises a payment to a member in contravention of this section commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or to both such fine and imprisonment, and in addition, is personally liable for such unauthorised payment. 17
