Prohibition on and penalty for pollution of environment

(1) No person shall emit, import, discharge, deposit, dispose of or dump any waste that might directly or indirectly pollute water resources or damage or destroy marine life. (2) Any person who contravenes sub-section (1) commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not less than five thousand dollars and not exceeding twenty-five thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or to both such fine and period of imprisonment, and to a further fine not exceeding one thousand dollars a day for every day that the offence is continued after a notice by the duly designated officer requiring him to cease the act specified therein has been served upon him.
