No contracting out of Act

Except as is specially provided in section 49 in respect of agreements, any provision in a contract of employment existing at the commencement of this Act, or thereafter entered into, whereby a workman or his dependants relinquish any right to compensation under this Act or to damages independently of this Act, whether for the workman or for any dependant, shall be void.
