Silence zones

The Department of Transport may by notice published in the Gazette and in one newspaper of Belize declare that from and after a date fixed by such notice no horn or other warning device shall be sounded during such hours, or at or within such place or area of any urban area as may be specified in the notice and any person who acts in contravention of any such notice shall, except in the case of an emergency the onus of proving which shall lie upon the person charged with such contravention, be guilty of an offence: Provided that no declaration made under this regulation shall apply to any vehicle on an occasion when it is being used for fire brigade, ambulance and traffic law enforcement purposes if the observance thereof would be likely to hinder the use of the vehicle for the purpose for which it is being used on that occasion.
