The rear lamp shall show a red light to the rear, of such intensity as to indicate clearly within a reasonable distance the presence of the vehicle on the road to traffic approaching from behind, and either– (a) the rear lamp shall be of such construction that it shows an uncoloured light of such intensity as to illuminate clearly the figures on the rear identification plate; or (b) the figures on the rear identification plate shall be clearly illuminated by a separate uncoloured light which shall not show to the rear. 136 lamp.
