Objections to issue of certificate of notice of marriage

Cap. 174, s. 49 · Revised Edition 2020

(1) Any person may lodge with the Registrar General an objection to the issue of a certificate of notice of marriage on any of the following grounds, (a) that his consent to the marriage is required by law; (b) that either of the parties to the intended marriage is not a British subject; (c) on any ground which prevents the lawful solemnisation of the marriage; or (d) that the declaration contained in the notice of marriage is, in any material particular, incorrect, and in such case the Registrar General shall inquire into the objection and, if satisfied that the objection is valid, shall not issue his certificate of notice of marriage. (2) Every decision of the Registrar General on an objection to the issue of a certificate of notice of marriage shall be deemed to be a judgment of an inferior court, and the provisions of Part X of the Supreme Court of Judicature Act, Cap.91, shall apply accordingly.
