Captive bolt stunners

For the purposes of these Regulations the use of captive bolt stunners to render animals unconscious and the handling of animals in connection therewith shall not be considered inhumane treatment of animals. (a) Captive bolt stunners shall be applied to so as to produce immediate unconsciousness in such animals with the minimum of excitement and discomfort to 12 Slaughter of Animals them before they are shackled, hoisted, thrown, cast or cut. (b) An animal stunned and made unconscious under the provisions of these Regulations shall be kept in that condition throughout the shackling, sticking and bleeding process. (c) All stunning instruments shall be maintained in good repair and shall be equipped with safety features to prevent accidental discharge.
