Interpretation

In these Regulations unless the context otherwise requires“captive bolt stunners” includes skull penetrating or non- penetrating instruments detonated by a charge of gunpowder and capable of producing immediate unconsciousness in an animal either by physical brains destruction or by a combination of changes in intracranial pressure and accelerated concussion, or an instrument combining both the penetrating and non- penetrating principle; “operator” means any person who for the time being is in charge of a slaughterhouse, knacker’s yard or holding pens and other facilities maintained in connection therewith; “pain producing objects” include exposed bolt, loose boards, splintered or broken planks, protruding metal of any kind, unnecessary holes or openings where heads, feet, or legs of animals may be injured.
