Maternity and paternity leave entitlement

(1) An officer is entitled to a total of fourteen weeks maternity leave which shall be on full pay. Maternity leave shall be granted as follows54 National Assembly Staff (a) seven weeks before expected date of confinement on full pay; (b) seven weeks after the expected date of confinement on full pay; (c) the seven weeks before and the seven weeks after the date of confinement shall be mandatory. (2) An officer who has completed less than one hundred and fifty (150) days service and requires maternity leave shall be granted leave without pay. Such leave shall not be considered as "service" for pension purposes. (3) Fathers may be granted paternity leave up to five (5) calendar days at the time of the birth of their child. The grant of this leave will be based on the presentation of the certificate of birth. (4) In the event of the death of the mother before the expiration of the post-natal leave, the father of the child shall be entitled to take leave of a duration equal to the unexpired portion of the postnatal maternity leave.
