General requirements

Every convicted prisoner shall be employed on useful work for not more than ten hours a day of which so far as practicable at least eight hours shall be spent in associated or other work outside the cells: Provided that the Medical Officer may excuse a prisoner from work on medical grounds and no prisoner shall be set to any work unless he has been certified as fit for that type of work by the Medical Officer.
