Preventing escape

If any prisoner attempts to escape from custody while undergoing sentence, whether within or without the prison, it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, Keeper, prison officer, police or other officer under whose charge or in whose custody such prisoner so attempting to escape is, to stop and capture the prisoner at all hazards and, if necessary, to use the weapon with which he is armed.
